This March, as a board member of the Harvard Club of Japan, I had the opportunity to present the Harvard Prize Book Award to outstanding students at Kaiyo Academy, Makuhari International School, and Ritsumeikan Uji High School.
今年3月、ハーバード・クラブ・オブ・ジャパンの理事として、海陽学園、幕張インターナショナルスクール、立命館宇治高校にて、優秀な生徒の皆さんにハーバード・プライズ・ブック賞を贈呈する機会をいただきました。
Each year, this award ceremony reminds me why educational mentorship continues to be one of my personal commitments. In a world where academic achievements often take center stage, it’s vital to recognize students not just for grades—but for character, potential, and curiosity about the world.
毎年この賞の授与に関わるたびに、改めて「教育を通じたメンタリング」が私にとって大切な活動であると実感します。
今の時代はどうしても学力や成績が注目されがちですが、この賞は、成績だけでなく、人としての誠実さや可能性、そして世界に目を向ける好奇心こそが大切だと教えてくれます。

What is the Harvard Prize Book?
ハーバード・プライズ・ブック賞（HPB）とは？
The Harvard Prize Book (HPB) is an annual award given to high school students who demonstrate not only academic excellence, but also integrity, leadership, and a deep commitment to making a positive impact.
Organized globally by the Harvard Alumni Association, the Prize Book is presented at nearly 2,000 schools worldwide. In Japan, around 20 high schools participate in the program. It’s one way Harvard alumni clubs encourage young people to consider the opportunities that come with a liberal arts education—and to think globally about their futures.
ハーバード・プライズ・ブック（HPB）は、学業の優秀さに加え、誠実さ、リーダーシップ、そして社会に良い影響を与えたいという意欲を持つ高校生に贈られる賞です。
この賞は、ハーバード大学同窓会（Harvard Alumni Association）によって世界中で展開されており、現在約2,000校で授与されています。日本ではおよそ20校がこのプログラムに参加しており、ハーバード同窓会が若者たちにリベラルアーツ教育の可能性や、グローバルな視野を広げるきっかけを提供しています。

Six Years of Supporting the HPB Program
HPBプログラムへの支援も6年目に
This year marked my sixth year contributing to the Harvard Prize Book initiative here in Japan. As a Board Member of the Harvard Club of Japan, it’s a role I take seriously—not just as an alumna, but as someone who believes deeply in expanding access to global education and mentorship.
今年で、ハーバード・プライズ・ブック・プログラムへの支援は6年目となりました。
ハーバード・クラブ・オブ・ジャパンの理事としてこの活動に関わることは、単なる卒業生という立場を超えて、世界に開かれた教育とメンタリングの機会を広げたいという想いから続けてきた大切な役割です。
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to speak with students from various schools, share my own journey—from studying in the U.S. to working across cultures—and encourage them to step outside their comfort zones and explore the world.
これまで多くの学校を訪れ、学生たちとさまざまな対話を重ねてきました。
アメリカでの留学経験や、異なる文化の中で働いてきた今の自分の歩みを紹介しながら、「安心できる場所にとどまらず、一歩外に出て世界を体験してみよう」というメッセージを届けています。

Harvard Prize Book 2025 at Makuhari International School
幕張インターナショナルスクールHPB 2025
This year’s visit to Makuhari International School was a standout moment. The student who received the HPB award embodied quiet strength, integrity, and a forward-looking mindset that impressed everyone.
今年は幕張インターナショナルスクールを訪れ、ハーバード・プライズ・ブック賞を授与する機会をいただきました。
受賞された生徒さんは、静かな強さと誠実さ、そして未来を見据えたしっかりとした考え方を持つ、非常に印象的な方でした。
The Prize Book isn’t just about academic records—it celebrates the kind of character that signals future leadership. I spoke briefly about my own experiences navigating unfamiliar environments and encouraged students to be bold in designing their own paths.
この賞が評価するのは、単なる学業の成績ではありません。人としての魅力や、将来リーダーとして活躍できる素質を讃えるものです。
当日は、私自身が異文化の中で学び、働いてきた経験を交えながら、「自分らしい道を恐れずに切り拓いていってほしい」というメッセージを生徒の皆さんにお伝えしました。

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the award ceremonies at Kaiyo Academy and Ritsumeikan Uji High School in person, but I shared a video message for the award recipients.
残念ながら海陽学園と立命館宇治高校の授賞式には直接出席できませんでしたが、受賞者の皆さんへ向けてビデオメッセージを送りました。
In the message, I spoke about three key messages I wanted to convey to all of you as you embark on your journey to shape the future.
その中で、未来を切り拓く皆さんに伝えたい3つのメッセージをお話ししました。
１．Embrace Your Uniqueness.
Don’t hide what makes you different—your uniqueness is your power.
1．自分の“違い”を受け入れよう。
あなたの個性こそが、あなたの強みです。
２．Take Risks.
Growth doesn’t come from staying safe. The world rewards those willing to explore unfamiliar territory.
2．リスクを恐れず、挑戦しよう。
成長は、安心できる場所の外にこそあります。
３．Keep Learning.
Beyond school, curiosity and lifelong learning will open doors and shape your worldview.
3．学び続ける姿勢を大切にしよう。
学校を卒業しても、学ぶ心が人生をより豊かにしてくれます。
