Rachel was invited by Mr. Masahiro Yamagiwa, currently an Instructor at Rikkyo University, as a guest lecturer for his class, “English for Current Topics 5.”
レイチェルは、現在立教大学で講師を務める 山際 正洋氏から、彼の授業 “English for Current Topics 5” のゲスト講師として招待されました。
Rachel shared 3 perspectives from her recent experiences with the students.
レイチェルは、最近経験したことの中から3つの視点を生徒たちに伝えました。
| (1) Don’t Be Afraid to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone (& Ask for Help) コンフォートゾーンを出ることを恐れず（＆助けを求める） |
| a. Stepping out of our comfort zones and trying new things are the only way to learn more about ourselves and what we are truly capable. コンフォートゾーンを出て新しいことに挑戦することは、自分自身について、また自分の本当の能力を知るための唯一の方法である。 b. Oftentimes, many of us are embarrassed or feel like it would be a failure to ask for help. However, it is nothing to be ashamed of! You never know who will be the next person to point you in the right direction or introduce you to the right opportunity. 私たちの多くは、しばしば恥ずかしがったり、助けを求めることが失敗であるかのように感じたりしています。しかし、それは何も恥ずかしいことではありません。次にあなたを正しい方向へ導いてくれるのは誰なのか、適切な機会を紹介してくれるのは誰なのか、それは誰にもわかりません。 |
| (2) The Most Important Skills are Communication Skills 最も重要なスキルは「コミュニケーション・スキル」 |
| a. No matter where you are in the world, or who you may find yourself working with, the ability to effectively read, write, and speak will be the most valuable. 世界のどこにいても、誰と仕事をすることになっても、効果的に読み、書き、話すことができる能力は最も価値のあるものになるでしょう。 b. Schools provide a safer space to practice these communication skills, so students should take the opportunity to do so as much as they can. 学校は、これらのコミュニケーション・スキルを練習するための、より安全な空間を提供してくれるので、学生はできるだけその機会を利用すること。 |
| (3) In the Past, it was a Career Ladder. Now, it is a Career Wall. 昔は、「Career Ladder」。今は、「Career Wall」です。 |
| a. Rather than simply climbing up the corporate hierarchy, it is necessary to take a step back and consider your own priorities. 会社のヒエラルキーにただ登るだけでなく、一歩下がって自分自身の優先順位を考えることが必要である。 b. Recognize that there is no one straight path to success. Rather, everyone has to find their own way. 成功への道は一本道ではなく、誰もが自分自身の道を見つけなければならないことを認識することである。 |
Students had the opportunity to participate in open discussion and Q&A. They asked many insightful questions and discussed many topics including how to approach career progression, job hunting, gender issues in the workforce, revitalizing the regional countryside, the future economic outlook, and SDGs in modern society.
学生たちは、オープンディスカッションと質疑応答に参加しました。キャリアアップの考え方、就職活動、社会人としてのジェンダー問題、地方の活性化、今後の経済見通し、現代社会におけるSDGsなど、多くの鋭い質問と議論が交わされました。
